Please join us in welcoming Benjamin Koo, MD, to our Neurology team. Dr. Koo has a special interest in treating neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis, autoimmune neuropathies, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and muscle diseases. He finds it rewarding to walk patients through the nerve conduction studies, electromyography, muscle biopsies, skin biopsies, and genetic testing that neuromuscular disorders may warrant.

Recently, Vancouver Clinic cardiologists became the first in the Vancouver-Portland area to perform a cutting-edge procedure for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. Dr. Stephen Rechenmacher used pulsed field ablation (PFA) to treat the upper chambers of a patient’s heart, which were beating chaotically and irregularly. Shortly after, Dr. Ben John performed PFA on another patient. Drs. Rechenmacher and John are two of just three electrophysiologists currently performing PFA procedures in the area. Previously, the only PFAs performed locally were part of a clinical trial.PFA allows doctors to target and kill the damaged cells causing atrial fibrillation while minimizing the impact to surrounding tissue. Doctors expect PFA procedures to be faster and easier to recover from than previous ablation techniques. PFA also has a lower risk of serious complications. Thank you to Dr. Rechenmacher, Dr. John, and the teams at Vancouver Clinic and PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for making this cutting-edge procedure available to our patients!
