Green Apple Explosion

Sometimes Jello shots are just meh. The vodka is too strong and the flavor is too weak. You don't have to worry about that problem with these Jello shots. These delicious shots are packed full of green apple flavor and are guaranteed to become your new favorite Jello shot.

This Green Apple Jolly Rancher Jello Shot recipe was inspired by Slimer from Ghostbusters. So whether you are hosting a fun party or watching Ghostbusters, these easy green Jello shots are sure to be a huge hit! And their green color makes this a perfect and so much fun recipe for a Halloween party, St. Patrick's Day party, and even Christmas!

Sour Apple Jello Shot Ingredients

✽ Boiling Water: The gelatin powder will dissolve in a cup of water to ensure there are no clumps in the final product.

Green Apple Gelatin Packet (Powder): I used a package of Green Apple Jolly Rancher Gelatin, and it's so good! It's quickly become my favorite flavor of Jello! There is also Sonic Green Apple Jello that I have found at the grocery store as well. This is already a green jello powder so no green food coloring needed for this recipe.

✽ Vodka: Half of the liquor in this recipe comes from vodka. With the strong green apple flavors, you won't even know it's there.

✽ Sour Apple Schnapps: The other half of the liquor in this recipe comes from sour apple schnapps. This adds just a bit of sourness and more green apple flavor for the best Jell-O shots ever! Two of my favorite brands are Mr. Stacks Sour Apple Schnapps and DeKuyper Sour Apple Pucker Schnapps.

Green Apple Gummies: Completely optional to garnish the shots with green apple gummy rings, but they are a fun addition and the perfect way to make these shots look super cute! You could also garnish them with a slice of apple.

If making these shots for St. Patty's Day, a fun way to make them extra cute is to top with whipped cream and festive sprinkles (such as gold sprinkles or shamrock sprinkles)! After the Jello shots are set, you could also dip the rim of the shot cups into a bit of water then into a pile of gold sugar so all the shots have gold sugar rims.

31 Days of Halloween

This delicious recipe for green apple Jello shots is a part of my 31 Days of Halloween. For each day in October, I came up with a co*cktail recipe and snack recipe that perfectly matches a scary movie, Halloween movie, or a fun spooky activity. Check it out for all of your Halloween snack and drinking desires!

How to Make Green Jello Shots

➊ Add 1 cup of boiling hot water to 3 ounces of green apple gelatin powder in a medium mixing bowl or large measuring cup. Stir for about 2 minutes until all gelatin dissolves.

➋ Now mix in 1/2 cup vodka and 1/2 cup of sour apple schnapps into the Jell-O mixture. Stir well.

➌ Pour Jello mixture into 2 ounce disposable plastic shot glasses. You should get about 10 shots. I like to set all the shots on a small baking sheet or cookie sheet so that it is easier to transport them. Place the shots in the fridge for 2-4 hours or until set. If desired, garnish with green apple gummies. Cheers!

Appletini Jello Shots: Questions

✽ Can you use green or sour apple vodka instead of sour apple schnapps?

I chose to use schnapps instead of vodka because the schnapps makes these shots sweet, takes away that strong vodka flavor, and gives you the best tasting shots. If you don't mind a more 'vodka-tasting' Jello shot then green apple vodka will work too! Just a side note- replacing vodka with schnapps will make these shots a tad bit stronger.

Since green apple vodka is not common, I did not call for using it in this recipe. You could though swap the regular vodka out for green apple vodka.

For really fun and festive St. Patrick's Day Jello Shots, swap the 1/2 cup vodka out with 1/2 cup Jameson Irish Whiskey for a apple & Irish whiskey jello shots!

✽ Can I turn these Green Apple Vodka Jello Shots into Caramel Apple Jello Shots?

Yes! Caramel and green apple make for such a great flavor combination! An easy way to get a bit of caramel flavor into these shots is to substitute the 1/2 cup of vodka for 1/2 cup of caramel vodka.

You could even go all out and dip the rims of the shots glasses into a little bit of caramel sauce. My caramel sauce recipe that I make for my caramel apples works really well for this.

Check out my caramel apple jello shots recipe for full instructions.

✽ Can I put more alcohol in these jello shots?

I do not recommend adding more alcohol than this recipe calls for (1 cup of alcohol) because you run the risk of the jello shots not setting properly.

Does it matter how much vodka you put in jello shots? ›

A standard recipe made with 3 ounces of Jell-O powder calls for 5 ounces of 80-proof vodka and 11 ounces of water, but this results in a shot that tastes watered-down. To make a stronger shot, use just 4 ounces of water and between 8 and 14 ounces of vodka (to taste)

What is the best alcohol to use for jello shots? ›

Spiked with alcohol, these boozy jigglers are easy to make and come in every color and flavor imaginable. While vodka is a popular option because of its neutral flavor, you'll find jelly shot recipes that use rum, tequila, whiskey, liqueurs, wine, and even a dark beer. Some are layered, and others are nice and simple.

Do Jello shots get stronger the longer they sit? ›

Jello Shots, like life, are all about balance. That said, if you want a strong one, it is possible if you leave it in the fridge long enough. In a Supercall experiment, we found that the strongest Jello Shot that will set is three-to-one ratio of 80-proof alcohol to water, and it took a full day to become mostly solid.

How long do you have to let Jello shots sit? ›

How Long for Jello Shots to Set? If you're wondering how long it will take for your jello shots to set, it depends on which type you make, but a general rule is two to four hours. A basic jello shot recipe should be allowed to set in the fridge for at least two hours. Four hours is better.

This jello shot recipe uses 1/2 cup vodka for 12 shots = 1/3 ounce vodka per shot. That's 4 jello shots to equal 1 regular shot of vodka. Even if you take out the cold water and use 1 cup vodka = that's still only 2/3 ounce vodka per shot. This is typical of jello shots.

What is the ratio of water to vodka in jello shots? ›

Should you chill jello shots upside down? ›

To do it, simply pour your liquid Jell-O shot into the cups, add the lid, and then flip each one before refrigerating. The result is a shot that sticks to the lid rather than the edges of the cup, allowing you easy access to that Jell-O goodness and making it so much easier to slurp down.

How many jello shots does a 6 oz box make? ›

1 small box of jello yields about 15 jello shots (2 cups of liquid). 2 boxes (or 1 large 6 oz. box) yield 30 shots, which will fit nicely on a baking sheet to transport them easily to the refrigerator.
