Why do you use the towel?
Reply
Tammilee
The towel helps soak in any extra moisture so the tater tots do not get soggy.

Tried it in tonight in the oven at 400 deg for 30 mins. 10 mins left added cheese. Pretty Good, but my husband thinks It lacks something. It needs a zing for us.

Hello! I really love this recipe from a cooking standpoint firstly. It is easy, made with simple basic ingredients I always have, and uses a crockpot...which is essential during these dog days of summer in Texas.
Secondly, everyone who has tried it the two times I have already made it...have raved over, usually having seconds!
I love feeding my friends and family. Thank you for sharing your recipe with us!
My tots do not get crispy, even with that nifty tea towel trick...but no one even cares. Ha ha. I may try doing it in the oven this winter, just to see what happens.

This dish is delicious!! I didn't have the time to cook it in the crockpot, so I fixed it on the stovetop (and cooked the tater tots in the oven). Assembled it in a casserole dish and popped it in the oven to melt the cheese. Topped with sour cream and served - definitely a family favorite now!

Hi,
Do you drain the hamburger before adding the tomato sauce?
ThanksReply

I still don't understand the towel thing. First I dont' know what a tea towel is. Second, you put it across the top of the crock pot & the ends are on the outside of the pot so the lid doesn't fit tight? Thanks.

Could you make this on low 6-8 hours instead of high for 4 hours as I work all day.

Would you make this the same way in the new casserole crockpot?

I made this last night and it was VERY good! I made it on the stove, cooking the tater tots in the over though because I like my tots crispy. It worked out great. Thanks for sharing!

I'm confused about the tea towel... Do you put a tea towel over the top layer of tater tots? What is the reason for this and won't they stick to the towel?

Tammilee
Hi,
You put the tea towel right under the lid. It helps soak up moisture so your casserole is not soggy.Reply
