If the spools in the main control valve are leaking, the only solution is disassembly and re-sealing the control valve with new O-rings and seals. They tend to get flattened and hardened over time. The machined components and parts will also need to be inspected for any grooves, pitting, or any excessive wear.

Pressure valve leakage is a little more complicated to troubleshoot, as there are a variety of potential causes. It could be the valve itself, it could be that misalignment is causing a failure to reseat after a correct opening, or it could be that there is greater pressure in your system than the valve's set pressure.

First, determine the cause of the leak. Check for mechanical damage in the valve, incorrect size, or dirt and debris obstructing the valve. Next, assess whether to repair or replace the valve. For example, replace the valve if it is damaged or the wrong size.

Pressure relief valve leaks usually occur when the valve isn't properly seated or when the seal is broken or damaged. Leaks can also happen when the pressure relief valve is operating too closely to the set point.

Use a pipe wrench to unscrew the old pressure relief valve. Wrap Teflon tape around the threads of the new valve, and screw it in until tight, orienting the overflow pipe opening away from the tank. Reattach the relief valve drain pipe using Teflon tape on the threads.

The control valve leaks externally

According to the International Society of Automation (ISA), causes of external valve leaks include improper maintenance, material incompatibilities, excessive packing temperatures, and vibration of the valve assembly.

Low or inconsistent flow rates: If a control valve is not regulating flow properly, it can lead to low or inconsistent flow rates. This problem can be caused by issues such as clogged valve ports, worn valve trim, or incorrect valve sizing.

Treatment options for heart valve regurgitation include: Medications to ease symptoms (like fluid buildup) and prevent or manage complications. Heart valve surgery to repair or replace a damaged valve. In some cases, surgeons can use minimally invasive methods (smaller incisions).

Trauma can cause valves to leak, as can infection of the heart valve or damage from rheumatic fever. High blood pressure, pulmonary hypertension, and an enlarged heart can also cause leaking valves. Some heart surgeries to correct heart defects in children may result in leaking valves later in life.

The valve is constantly releasing water: If you hear a constant hissing noise coming from your water heater, it could mean that your pressure relief valve is constantly releasing water. This can happen if the valve is not functioning correctly or if there is a buildup of sediment inside.

If observed that there's a significant loss of pressure when using more than one fixture at the same time, or found that the water pressure does not seem to be as strong as it once was, the pressure reducing valve may need replacement.
